Emilie fleur Neubauer
Biologist, Scientist, Educator, Communicator, Artist, Yogi

My eclectic path started out in the arts, I studied art, design and sculpture at university and after a year travelling the world I realised that I would like to use my artistic talents to educate and protect our environment. I went back to night school and studied Environmental Science, Chemistry and Biology, going on to study biology at undergraduate and more recently post graduate level.
I worked for several years in biodiversity conservation, specifically communications and awareness work for the Welsh Assembly Government and Welsh NGO's, representing Wales on a National and European level.
I am passionate about education for sustainability and am familiar with how this theme fits with the NZ curriculum. Both as teacher and as a facilitator I have run numerous workshops, providing children and adults with the skills to create and enhance habitat for biodiversity. Additionally, developing my own thriving yoga curriculum has given me a new insight into teaching with my body and the power of movement within experiential learning.

Im currently working as project coordinator on the Te Kura O Papatuanuku Wairarapa Earth School project - find out more about this project learning approach to education for sustainability at the project blog: https://wairarapaearthschool.wordpress.com/.
Since I was a child I have had a reverence and respect for my natural environment. I grew up in an enchanted kingdom of rural farmland in Somerset in South West England, where I marvelled at the intricacies of my immediate ecosystem. This fascination and connection with the natural world led me to study Biology and Ecology. From these roots grew a passion for organic and agroecological farming practices and an appreciation for our role as guardians of biodiversity and its support systems.
I have been vegetable gardening since I can remember. My first memories are the joy of planting and digging my own potatoes and understanding the role of pollinating insects through quiet observation.
Here I am as a parent experiencing the same seeds of joy in my sons sparkling eyes ... as they explore life on the farm in the Wairarapa and adventure in the Tararuas.
